Fannie Mae Underwriting Guidelines | LoveToKnow – Fannie Mae is a government agency originally established to make homeownership affordable for everyone. As an agency that works with lenders to provide mortgages to homebuyers, Fannie Mae has a strict set of guidelines that each mortgage, and therefore each borrower, must adhere to.

Established by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, FHFA provides oversight and regulates America’s 11 federal home.

Fannie Mae is currently one of the largest forces supporting the U.S. mortgage market. Also known as the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), this government sponsored enterprise (GSE) was first acquired by the federal government during the recession of 2008. Its role is to purchase qualifying loans from lenders, and thus absorb some of the financial risk.
